Life story

Life story

Maud(e)'s full name at birth was Laura Alice Maud(e). She was the daughter of John Bruce Sutherland and Laura Louisa, nee Shepherd, and was known as Maud.

When she was 7 she was a visitor, with her mother, in the home of the Burnett family who lived in Saxon Road, Millbrook, Hampshire. Ten years later, in 1891, she was living with an aunt, Kate Gimber, a dressmaker, at 24, Eastgate, St Maurice, Hampshire.

Maude married William James Coxon at Winchester on 30th August 1917.

From the mid 1930s they lived at Cartmel, 27, Heene Way, West Worthing. Aged 76, Maud died on 7 September 1951 leaving the considerable sum of £5262 16s 9d.
