Life story

Life story

Brough was born in Earlham, Norfolk, the son of John and Frances Eleanor. He was baptised at Earlham on 29th July 1847. By 1851, the family were living in Baconsthorpe near Norwich where John had a farm. As young men, Brough and his brother Frank moved to London to work for a bank. On 28th April 1874, Brough married Katharine Jane Anne Murrell in Great Yarmouth. By 1881, the family were living in Islington. Brough and Katharine had six children but sadly their son Benjamin died aged 2 in 1882. The family moved to Wimbledon and then after Brough retired, to Buxted in Sussex, where he became warden of the local church. By 1918, they had moved to Worthing, living at "Deltota" in Shakespeare Road. The couple's final move was in 1924 to 27 Winchester Road, Worthing. Katharine died on 15th October 1926 and Brough died on 21st July 1929. Probate was granted on 30th August to Beatrice Eleanor Girling and Jane Anne Girling spinsters. Effects £1040 14s 8d.
