Life story

Charlotte Ann Brown was baptised on 29 December 1848 at Holy trinity, Clapham. Her father, William, was a merchant, and her mother was Mary Freshfield Brown nee King. By 1861 Charlotte and her sister, Emma, were living in Loats Road, Clapham  being taught by a governess, Sarah Loar. The Brown family had moved to Quarry Hill House, Tonbridge, Kent, by 1881 and to Speldhurst, also in Kent, by 1891, and always had  plenty of servants. Charlotte was living in her final home, 25, Shakespeare Road, Worthing , by 1924. She died there on 5 April 1934. In her probate announcement are mentioned Austin John Brown, a printer,(not traced), Violet Catherine Kitto,( the daughter of William Charles Brown , Charlotte's brother ) wife of John Lemon Kitto, Annie Mary Brown, wife of Austen Charles Brown (not traced) and Roy Alexander Malcolm, solicitor, of Worthing, whose wife was Mary nee Collet, the daughter of Augustus H Collet, surgeon, and Emma L Collet, of Ashurst Lodge, Liverpool Gardens, Worthing.
