Life story

Elizabeth Quirk was baptised on 26th August 1840 in Royton, Lancashire, by her father, Reverend Charles Thomas Quirk, 28yrs, curate of Royton; her mother was, Margery, 29yrs, nee Eckersley.

She had 2 brothers, Thomas, b.1849, and John, b.1850.

Elizabeth, 19yrs, married Rev. Henry Charles Bull, 26yrs, on 6th July 1859 at the Parish Church, Golborne, where her husband was curate. They moved to Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight, where Henrywas a  curate and their first son, Henry, was born in 1860. Henry and Elizabeth eventually had 10 children, 7 boys and 3 girls.

Henry became Vicar of St. James, Wigan, in 1864 where he remained until his retirement in 1901.

Henry and Elizabeth retired to Worthing shortly after 1901, living at Gable End, Heene, where Henry died, on 15th December 1905, aged 72yrs. Elizabeth continued to live there and she died on 18th October 1916, aged 76yrs. Administration was granted to her son, Rev. Edward Leonard Bull, Clerk, effects £395 16s 1d. Value 2022 - £36,600.
