Life story

Life story

Elizabeth Stutfield Irvine was born in 1823 in New Shoreham, Sussex. Her father was George Irvine, 25yrs, Shipbroker, her mother, Frances, 23yrs, nee Stutfield; they were married in January 1817 at St. Martins in the Fields. She had 2 sisters, Frances Stutfield Irvine, 1818, and Eleanor Jane, 1831. In 1836 their father, now a clerk in public office, was involved, with the London and Brighton Railway, in successfully proposing that Shoreham and its port be connected to London by the railroad. In 1845, Elizabeth married Edward Child, Miller, in Hackney. They had 3 children, Charles b.1845, Amy b.1847, and Arthur b.1853. Thy lived in Tooting before moving to Worplesdon, Surrey, where, in 1874, Edward died, aged 55yrs. Elizabeth moved to Worthing, Sussex, where her sister, Frances lived, and died, aged 74yrs, on 29th January 1897, at Carlsruhe, Rowlands Road. Probate was granted to Charles Edward Child, clerk to mineral water manufacturer, and Amy Frances Child, spinster. Effects £2401 11s 1d. value 2021 - £320K.
