Life story

Ellen Parker was born on 3rd September 1813 in Middlesex, she was the daughter of Benoni Parker, clerk, and Elizabeth, 25yrs, nee Wright, a music teacher.

Ellen, aged 35yrs, married Johnson Jacob, 30yrs, on 21st June 1849, at St. Mary, Haggerston, Hackney, her husband was a brass manufacturer. In 1851, Ellen and Johnson were living with Ellen's widowed mother, Elizabeth, in Shoreditch, where Ellen was a schoolmistress and Johnson a gas fitter.

Ellen was widowed in 1860 when her husband died, aged 41yrs, they had no children. Ellen then pursued her career in education, moving to Leominster, Herefordshire, where, in 1871, she was the Principal of a Ladies College.

In 1891, Ellen, 77yrs, and retired from teaching, was living with two nieces who ran a small school at Marine Parade, Worthing. In 1901 they were running a boarding house at 7, The Parade, where Ellen lived with them and where she died on 2nd February 1902, aged 88yrs.
