Life story

Life story

Emily was born in Brompton, Middlesex, the daughter of Charles Lennox Moore Teesdale and his wife Emily. She was baptised at Holy Trinity Church, Brompton by her grandfather Rev. John Rush on 29th June 1846. Emily had three sisters, Annie, Mary Jane and Charlotte Eloise. Mary Jane was the only sister who married. Emily lived with her parents until their deaths and never married. Her father worked for the Post Office and by 1861 was Postmaster at Exeter. When he retired, the family moved firstly to Rumboldswyke near Chichester and then to Worthing. They moved to a house in Shelley Road in 1886 and then to a newly built house on the corner of Wordsworth Road and Rowlands Road. After her mother died in 1890, Emily looked after her father with two of her sisters. Charles died in 1901 and the sisters separated, Emily went to London and Annie and Charlotte stayed in Worthing. In the early 1900's, Emily was living at 21 Park Mansions in Battersea. By 1911, she was living in Hove but moved back to Worthing in the 1920's, living at "Hartwell" in Warwick Gardens. Emily died on 16th July 1930. Probate was granted on 18th July to Humphrey Charles Bradshaw Bowles solicitor. Effects £2204 14s 6d.
