Life story

Life story

Fanny Charlotte Fitzroy Berridge was born on 14th December 1826 in London, she was baptised on 6th May 1827 at St. Dunstan, Stepney. Her parents were, William Berridge, Master Mariner, and Jane Berridge, nee Gilbert. She had 3 older brothers, William Dunstan, b.1823, John Gilbert b.1825, and Henry Francis b.1816.

In 1854, Fanny Charlotte, 27yrs, married William Oakeshott, 38yrs, an artist and photographer, at Hackney. They had 4 children, William b.1856, Alice Louise b.1858, Frank b..1861, and Edith Elizabeth b.1865.

Fanny and William lived in Winchester, Hampshire, for most of their married life, and in 1882 Fanny was widowed when William died, aged 65yrs, after seven months of illness.  She then lived with her two unmarried daughters, Alice and Edith, firstly in Teddington, Middlesex, and then, Worthing, living at The Priory, Heene, where she died, on 30th April 1917, aged 90yrs.
