Life story

Life story

Fielden James Ramsbotham was born on 10th July 1846 in Stand, Lancashire, he was baptised at All Saints, Stand, on 2nd August. His parents were James Ramsbotham, Snr. 32yrs, and his mother, Jane, nee Fielden, 28yrs., he was one of eleven children. 

On 9th June 1874, Fielden, aged 28yrs, married Edith Henrietta Anne Walker, 26yrs, at St. Mark, Surbiton, Surrey. She was the daughter of Robert Walker, Clerk in Holy Orders. They had 5 children, Edward b.1875, in Manchester, and James b. 1876, Edith b.1878, Mildred b. 1879, and Ruth b. 1884, all born in Sussex. 

Fielden was a Land Steward and Farm Bailiff, he worked in Sussex over the next 20yrs, and by 1901 had retired to Hereford with his family before moving to Bedfordshire, where they remained, with their adult daughters, until after 1911.

At some point, Fielden and Edith moved to Worthing living at 18, Queen's Road, where Fielden died on 29th May 1922, aged 75yrs. 

Probate was granted to Edith Henrietta Anne Ramsbotham, Edward Rishton Ramsbotham, horticulturist, and James Humphrey Ramsbotham, farmer. Effects £19848 10s 5d. Value 2021 - £1.1m.
