Florence Jane Harrison was born on 11th May 1871, in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire; she was the daughter of Edward Rhodes Harrison, 34yrs, Annuitant, and Juliet, 28yrs, nee Morgan, and she had 7 siblings, Edward b.1864, Mary b.1866, Percy b.1868, Constance b.1873, Emily b.1875, William b.1877, and Alice b.1880. As a child, Florence lived in Worthing with her family, they were living at West End Villa, Manor Road, when her father died in 1886; she moved from Worthing to Surrey with her mother after 1891.
Florence began training as a nurse in 1894 at Macclesfield Infirmary and then at Ardwick Green, Manchester. In 1897 she trained as a midwife in Kensington, then worked in Billericay 1898-1899. In 1905 she was awarded the Certificate of the Central Midwives Board. In 1911 she was living with her widowed mother in Addlestone, Surrey, and in 1939 Florence was in Chertsey, Surrey.
Florence lived until the age of 88yrs, when she was living at Elmer Sands, near Bognor Regis, she died at 9, College Lane, Chichester, on 17th September 1959. Probate was granted to Florence Gertrude Drake Carnell and Ronald Clifford Wintle, solicitor, effects £19517 4s 5d. Value 2021 - £465K.
