Life story

Florence Isabella MacCarty was the daughter of Robert MacCarty, 29yrs, Landed Proprietor, born in County Cork, Ireland, and Mary, 27yrs, nee Hyde. She was born in 1841 in Belgium, but she was an Irish national. Florence had 3 sisters, Elizabeth b.1838, Cork, Geraldine b.1844 in Germany, and Maria b.1845, Germany.

Florence appears to have spent most of her childhood abroad, and in 1861, aged 18yrs, she was with her family in Salcombe, Devon, the birth county of her mother, Mary Hyde. Her father died in 1867 and her mother in 1868, both in Plympton, Devon.

Florence and her sister, Geraldine, were living together in Fulham, in 1891, and in 1911 they were in Bexhill, Sussex, they were both unmarried. At some point they moved to Worthing, Sussex, where they lived at Woodville, Downview Road.

Florence died on 26th August 1917, aged 77yrs, she was described in her probate notice as, Florence Isabella MacCarty of Creg Fermoy, Cork. Probate was granted to Robert Henry Leslie, Esq., effects £2651 5s 9d. Value 2022 £196k.
