Life story

Life story

Frederick was born in Burton Upon Trent, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth. He was baptised at Hornington Street Wesleyan Chapel, Burton on 14th April 1834. His father was a baker. Frederick's brother Edwin was apprenticed to his father but Frederick was apprenticed to a cooper. 

By 1857, Frederick had moved to London and was living in Southwark. On 17th October 1857, he married Elizabeth Elson at St John's Church, Horsleydown, Southwark. The following year, a son Frederick was born but Elizabeth died soon after. 

On 7th October 1861, Frederick married Mary Ann Rodwell, a widow ten years older than him. She had been born in 1824 in Colchester. The couple were living at 4 President Street, Finsbury at the time of their marriage. In 1871, they were sharing a house in St Pancras with two other families. 

The Brunswick Hotel

In 1874, Frederick was working at The Brunswick Hotel in Worthing. He fell ill with heart trouble and died at the hotel on 4th September. His death was notified by John Nadin, the landlord. No probate.
