Life story

Life story

Frida was born in Newport, Monmouthshire, the daughter of Richard William Jones and his wife Helen. Her father was a JP and magistrate who ran his own shipbroking business in Dock Street, Newport. He worked for the Liberal Party and was a Harbour Commissioner. Richard was highly respected by the town and at his death on 26th April 1890, the flag was hung at half mast from the Town Hall. After Richard's death and time away from Wales, his widow Helen moved the family to Dulwich in South London. Frida stayed single all her life and lived with her mother. In 1921, they were living in Hampstead but by 1928 had moved to a newly built house in Pevensey Road, Worthing.  They called the house "Cymry". Frida died at St Botolph's Nursing Home in Richmond Road, Worthing on 1st April 1931. Her mother died a few weeks later on 24th June.

Probate was granted on 13th June to Hilda Vernon Jones spinster. Effects £3008 13s 6d.
