Life story

Helen Jane Flavell was born in July 1839 in Ridlington, Norfolk. Her father, the Rev John Webb Flavell, was 33, and her mother, Ann Jane Rees, was 24. She had four brothers and eight sisters.

Helen worked as a governess to the family of Rev Robert Sutton of Slindon Sussex and lived in the rectory.

Helen died on 15 March 1906 in Glenridge, Winchester Road, Worthing, (the home of her mother, Ann) at the age of 66.
