Life story

Henry Sopp was born in Earnley, near Chichester, he was baptised on 8th September 1833; his parents were, William Sopp, 23yrs, Agricultural Labourer, and Mary Ann, 18yrs, nee Sharp. Henry had 7 siblings, Mary Ann b.1837, Charles b. 1838, William b. 1841, John b.1842, Elizabeth b. 1844, Ann b.1847, and Robert b.1849.

Henry married Amy Fidler, 29yrs, in Selsey, Sussex, on 20th October 1859. Henry was a farm labourer working at Almodington, Sidlesham, Sussex, and this was their home for nearly 40yrs. They had 4 daughters, Mary Ann b.1860, Ellen b.1863, Emily b.1865, and Jane b.1868.

In 1901, Henry 67yrs, was still an agricultural labourer, and lived in East Wittering, with Amy and daughter Ellen. At some point over the next few years, they moved to Worthing where their other 3 daughters lived. Henry died, aged 76yrs, on 11th April 1910, in Worthing.
