Life story

Hilda was baptised on the 22 January 1872 at Holy Trinity, Huddersfield, Yorkshire. She was the daughter of Edward Smyth Thorpe, a clerk, and Harriette Ruth Thorpe, nee Robbins. Although she was born in , by the time she was 9 years old her mother  and the children  had moved to Worthing. They were living in Shelley Road and  Edward Thorpe does not appear in any Censuses with them although he did not die until 1915 . Later, they moved to Richmond Lodge, Richmond Road, now the site of Worthing Museum and Art Gallery.  Hilda did not marry. When she died, the Heene Parish Magazine mentioned that one of her brothers died of a fever in the Straits Settlements at about the same time.
