Life story

Edinburgh born, Jane Bonnar's parents were Dundas Bonnar and Jane Chalmers. She was baptised at Old parish Church, Greenock in July 1851. Janie married Charles Bean Lucie-Smith on  22nd September 1871 at St. George's Edinburgh. They travelled to India where he was serving in the Army. The couple had two daughters in Bengal, Jane and Eleanor. Jane died aged 2 and was buried in Bengal, Eleanor was born in 1875 and travelled home with them to England. Another daughter Muriel was born in 1877 and baptised at Broadwater Church Worthing, Sussex.

They lived at The Acacias, Gratwicke Road, Worthing. Charles died on 10 Feb 1910. Janie died in 1918 and was buried in Heene Cemetery on 28th June in a service officiated by Rev. Hollis.
