Life story

Life story

John Lockhart Cassels was born in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland, in 1848 and was baptised at the Old Parish , Greenock, on 26 November. His parents were Robert Cassels and Helen nee Anderson. He lived in Scotland for most of his life, only moving to Worthing sometime between 1901 and 1911 to 6. Belsize Road.

He had been a grain merchant and flour importer but became a fruit grower in Worthing.

He married twice. His first wife  was Jemima Robertson and they had a daughter, Ethel Mima. Jemima died in 1882 and in 1887 John married Mary Thompson Livingstone, who was born in Valparaiso,Chile, but was a British subject by parentage.  There were no children from the second marriage.

Although his address was 6, Belsize Road, John died at Gainsborough, Richmond Road, on19 April 1918 leaving £3366 2s 4d.
