Kate Banks was born in Risca, Monmouthshire, she was baptised on 8th August 1870. She had 4 older half-siblings and was the first child of George Hatfield Banks, 47yrs, and his second wife, Mary Jane Hyam, 30yrs. becoming the eldest of 5 children, Henry Hatfield, 1874, Lilian M., 1881, George Herbert, 1883, and Mabel A., 1886.
Kate spent her childhood in Risca, where her father was a Tinplate Manufacturer employing over 300 men, women and boys. She trained as a teacher and taught English in a Ladies College in Ilfracombe, North Devon, at the age of 20yrs. then becoming a Governess. Kate worked in various parts of the country, for a doctor's family in Streatham, a wealthy shipbuilder's family in West Hartlepool and her last position was at Cleeve House, Chew Magna, nr. Bristol. She remained unmarried.
Kate Banks died, aged 45yrs, on 9th May 1929, in a nursing home at 14, Queen's Road, Worthing. Her connection with Worthing is unknown. Her death certificate gave the cause of death as 1) Sceptic Wound of Hand 2) Septicaemia.
