Life story

Lucy Greaves was born in Tenby, Wales, in 1835; she was the daughter of Jonathan Harry Anstied Greaves, 44yrs, Gentleman and proprietor of houses, and Catherine, 50yrs, nee Evers White, she had 2 sisters and 3 brothers.

By 1851 the family had moved to St. Helier, Jersey, C.I., and Lucy lived there for the next forty years. During this time, Lucy and her older sister, Emily, both worked as schoolteachers and private governesses. Neither of them married. After Emily died, Lucy returned to the mainland, and in 1911 was living in Upper Norwood, London. At some point she moved to Worthing, Sussex, living at 24, Eriswell Road; Lucy died on 5th January 1928 at the Amatola Nursing Home, Shakespeare Road, aged 92yrs. Probate was granted to Arabella Greaves, widow, effects £2341 14s 6d. Value 2021 - £154K.
