Life story

Life story

Marianne Shank was born in The Minories, London, in 1819 and was baptised on 3 October 1819 at All Saints, Lewes .Her parents were Thomas Shank and Lucy Holt Shank nee Verrall.  At the age of 30, she and her widowed mother were living with a cousin, Mary Page, at a school for boys at 12, Bedford Row, Worthing with 11 pupils aged between 10 and 6 years old. Marianne later became a governess. By 1891 she had moved to Gratwicke Cottage, Broadwater and by 1901 to her final home at 'Chalfont', 24, Milton Street, Worthing where she died in June 1915 aged 96. No probate announcement was found. In 1898 her brother,  John Shank, a banker at the London Cattle Market, left her £2,000 in his will.
