Life story

Mary Wilgress Mills was born on 23rd May 1862 in Eltham, Kent, she was baptised at St. John the Baptist, Woolwich, on 22nd May 1862. Her parents were, Thomas Wilgress Mills, 30yrs, War Office clerk, and Elizabeth, 28yrs, nee Worthington; she had 5 siblings, Emily b.1860, Helen b.1866, Walter b.1867, Mabel b.1869, and Alice b.1872.

On 21st June 1894, Mary, 32yrs, married Rev. Arthur Kaye Bowstead, 37yrs, at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Eltham; during their married life, Arthur served as Curate in Croydon, Herefordshire and Kent, and was Vicar of several parishes in Lincolnshire and Hampshire. They had 7 children, Mary Elizabeth b.1895, John b.1895, Margaret b.1897, Thomas b.1899, Frances b.1901, Anna b.1903, and Richard b.1905.

In 1924 Arthur and Mary retired to live in Worthing, at 107, Marine Parade, where Mary died the following year at St. Botolph's Nursing Home aged 62yrs, on 22nd April 1925. Probate was granted to Arthur, effects £448 0s 10d. Value 2021 - £28K.
