Life story

Life story

Mary Louisa was the daughter of Edmund Brown and his second wife, Louisa, nee Pople. Both her parents had had previous marriages. They married in 1867 and Mary Louisa was born on 1 May 1871 in Warwickshire. The England Censuses for 1871, 1881 and 1891 could not be found so nothing is known about her before she married Albert Burnham, a domestic coachman, in 1896. In the 1901 Census they are shown living at Stable Cottage, Rosebank, Friar Lane, Acton, Middlesex with 2 sons, aged 3 and 1. By 1911 they had moved to Worthing to 4, Heene Mews, and now also had a daughter, Doris Drusilla, aged 4.  Albert died on 19 April 1926 and in the 1939 Register, Mary Louisa is shown living with Doris and her husband, Edgar Wilton, and a widow, Charlotte Carter, at 27, Belsize Road, Worthing. Mary Louisa died on 27 March 1940 leaving £1306 1s 16d to her 2 sons, Albert George Burnham, an oil and colour merchant, and John William Burnham, a timber merchant's cashier.
