Life story

Richard Arthur Dolding (known as Arthur) was born in Clapham, Surrey, in 1854. His father was Matthew Dolding, 21yrs, Bootmaker, and his mother was Jane, 24yrs, nee Tigwell. Arthur had 2 brothers, Albert Charles b. 1858 (died 1860), and Charles Matthew b. 1861, both born in Kent. Arthur began his career as a grocer's assistant at the age of 17yrs, then running his own grocery business in Horton Kirby, Kent, for the next 20yrs.

In 1877 Arthur, 23yrs, married Sarah Louise Bowers, 20yrs, of Darenth, Kent, they had 6 children; Herbert b.1879, Percy b.1881, Florence b.1884, Charles b.1887 (died 1895), Nessie b.1892, and Sidney b.1896.

Arthur then became a commercial traveller for a Tea Merchant, during which time the family moved to Battersea and then to Worthing, Sussex, living at Northcote, Richmond Road, where Richard Arthur Dolding died, aged 47yrs, on 25th October 1901. Probate was granted to his widow, effects £1661 5s 8d. Value 2020 - £205K.

The Last Will and Testament for Richard Dolding was dated 24th August 1901.
