Life story

Life story

Rosa Couch was born in Blatchington, Sussex, in 1867. She was the daughter of James John Couch, 42yrs, Coastguard, and Eliza, 40yrs, nee Julyan. She had 6 sisters, Sarah b.1859, Eliza b.1861, Mary b.1863, Elizabeth b.1865, Minnie b.1870, and Emily b.1872.

Rosa lived with her family in Worthing for most of her life, she never married, and worked as a domestic servant.  In 1891 she was in service with a family named Jones in Second Avenue, Hove. After her father's death in 1904, she lived with her sister, Mary, a general worker, at 11 Milton Street, until she died in 1921.

Rosa died in St. Richard's Hospital, Chichester, on 18th April 1945, aged 78yrs, her address was 15, Milton Street, Worthing. Administration was granted to her sister, Minnie Buckman, effects, £1018 18s 6d. Value 2022 - £46,800.
