Life story

Rosamund Esme Duncan was born on 30th November 1883 in Edinburgh, her parents were Charles Duncan, 39yrs, Painter/Artist, and Jane Vassie nee Davison, 29yrs. She had 4 siblings, Mabel b.1887, Constance b.1888, Charles b. 1890, and Harold b.1896. By 1891, the family had left Scotland and settled in Worthing, Sussex, at Seaforth, St. Michael's Road. Rosamund's widowed grandmother, Mary Duncan, lived next door. In 1904 Rosamund's mother died, and she moved with her father and siblings to Brighton. In 1911, aged 28yrs, she married Henry Benifold Dell, 31yrs, a Furnisher and Remover, with his family business in Brighton. They had 3 children, Henry Charles Roger Dell, b.1912, Mary Bettina, b.1914, and John Michael, b.1920. (John Michael had Downs Syndrome and his mother cared for him all his life, he died in 1976, aged 56yrs.) Rosamund and Henry remained in Brighton until his retirement, and they then lived at Old Fort Road, on Shoreham Beach. Rosamund was widowed when Henry died in 1964, aged 85yrs. Rosamund died on 17th August 1969, aged 85yrs, at 29, St. James's Street, Pangbourne, Berkshire. Effects £3510, value 2020 - £58K.
