Life story

Life story

Samuel Webb Chown, junior, was  born at Braunston, Northamptonshire, in 1833 and was  baptised on 17 November. His father, also Samuel Webb Chown, was an agricultural labourer, and his mother was Lydia, nee Hall. Samuel, junior, was an agricultural labourer like his father but by 1861 had become a brickmaker. He  married  Mary Ann  Macnamara on  29 September 1861 in All Saint's, Lambeth. After 10 years of marriage, they had 6 children whose ages ranged from 10 years to 7 months. The family moved frequently as can be seen from the children's birthplaces. Emma was born in Hertfordshire, Alice in Surrey, Adelaide in Middlesex, William in Tarring and Albert and Eveline in Worthing. In 1881 they were living in West Terrace, Wick and in 1891 at 44, Market Street, Broadwater, by which time there had been 5 more children. Samuel died in the last quarter of 1898. No probate was found.
