Her Father worked as an Inn-Keeper at the Black Swan Inn in Stokesley. When he died in 1838, Sarah's Mother Catherine and her Brother Thomas, took over the running of the Inn. However, by 1844 Catherine had fallen on hard times and became insolvent.  She died in 1849.

Sarah Wilstrop married John Power Trench on 4th August 1845 in Boligo Honduras.  John was a Doctor of Medicine, Staff Surgeon Major in the West Indian Regiment. He was born in 1818 in Clarendon, Jamaica. They had 5 children-

William Power Bunbury Trench b1851 Marown, Jamaica d1932 Guildford Surrey. Bank Manager at Capital and Counties Bank

Mary Elizabeth Trench b1852 Stokesley, Yorkshire  d1868 Kensington London

The family lived in Jamaica until 1852, when they arrived back in England and returned to Sarah's home town of Stokesley, Yorkshire.  Then in 1853 they had moved again to Valetta in Malta, where John was stationed due to the Crimean War. He served with the 7th Fusiliers and was present at the siege of Sevastopol.  This siege was a significant event in the Crimean War, which lasted from 1853 to 1856.

Sometime after the Crimean War, John and Sarah and their children moved back to England and lived at 16 St. James Square, Nottinghill, London. John died there on 1st December 1859.

In 1861 Sarah had moved to Elgin Crescent, Kensington, London, with 4 of her children. She is living on her Husband's military pension.

By 1871 Sarah only has 1 of her children living with her, and is staying at 1 Athol Villas, Croydon, surrey.

On the 6th August 1874, Sarah married Richard Peter Nichols at St Mary Magdalene church, Addiscombe, Croydon.  Richard was a widower, born in 1804 in Wargrave, Berkshire, and he worked as a Secretary to the London and County bank. They lived at no. 23 St. Aubyn's, Hove, Sussex, with Richard's Sister-in-Law, Elizabeth, and Sarah's Daughter Catherine Trench. Sadly, Sarah's Husband, Peter, died on 7th August 1887.

Sarah and her Daughter Catherine moved to 62 Clarendon Villas, Hove, and she was living on her means in 1891. Then by 1901 Sarah and Catherine had moved to Worthing and were living in Beresford Winchester Road, Worthing.  Catherine died on 1st April 1903
