Life story

Sarah Louisa Carte was born in Hull, Yorkshire, she was baptised on 2nd May 1827. She had 3 sisters, Mary, b.1823, Georgiana b.1824, and Catherine M.b.1831. Her father, Alexander Gordon Carte, b.1792, worked for the military and in 1851 he was an ordnance storekeeper at the Garrison of Hull, her mother was Mary Ann Carte, nee Sherlock, b.1798.

After the death of her father, Sarah lived with her mother, who died in 1876, and on 19th September 1876, Sarah, 48yrs, married Henry Ward in Bridlington, Yorkshire. By 1891 Sarah had been widowed and moved to Folkestone, Kent, she later moved to Worthing, living at 10, Eriswell Road.                                   In 1910, aged 83yrs, Sarah died on 7th May, her address was Westholme, Rowlands Road, Worthing. Probate was granted to her sister, Catherine Marlow Peacock, effects, £2268 14s 3d. Value 2020 - £268K.
