Life story

Sidney Powell was born in Cheapside, London, in 1835; his parents were, William John Powell, 36yrs, Warehouseman, and Sarah Caldecott Cavell, 26yrs. He was the 4th of 9 children.

Sidney followed his father's trade and in 1861, aged 26yrs, he was a warehouseman in a silk warehouse. He married Elizabeth Anne Fussell, 23yrs, on 14th August, 1867 in Basford, St. Leodegarius, Nottinghamshire, England. They had 3 children, Ethel Mary b.1869, Sidney Hubert b. 1870, and Margaret Leigh b.1875. Sidney changed occupations over the years, from Warehouseman to Manufacturer's Representative, to Flannel Agent, living in Kent, Eltham and Lewisham, before retiring to Worthing, Sussex, after 1901.

Sidney died, aged 73yrs, on 26th February 1908, his address was 'Standishgate', West Worthing. Probate was granted to Elizabeth Anne, widow, and son, Sidney Hubert Powell, Gentleman. Effects £2320 19s 8d. Value 2021 - £286K.

The Last Will and Testament for Sidney Powell was dated 17th June 1910.
