William was born in Winchester, son of William and Charlotte and baptised in St Bartholomew's Church, in Hyde, Winchester.
Caroline was born in Candover, Hampshire..
In 1841, William was living in Standon in Hursley, Hampshire, working as a Farm Servant with the family of Farmer Mary Snuggs. In 1851, again a Farm Servant, he was at Manor Farm, Bishops Sutton, with the Judd family.
In 1861, William, and his wife, Caroline Kennison were living in Old Broyle, Chichester. William was a Shepherd, with daughters Charlotte (born Easton in 1854), Sarah (born Walberton in 1856) and Catherine (born Walberton in 1858).
By 1871they had moved to Church Farm, Harting. William was still a Shepherd.
Two daughters, Charlotte, Domestic Servant currently out of employment, East Ham, Hampshire and Caroline, 13, born in Walberton.
In 1881 William was at 1 Brickyard, Heene, a Farmer's Labourer living alone. Caroline was a Boarder in Portslade, described as a 'monthly Nurse' in the Household of William Patching, a Sexton. There were 3 daughters and a son in the household, the youngest child only 9 days old.
1 Farm Cottages, St Michael's Road in 1891 Gardener, bn Winchester. Caroline plus 2 Lodgers Ebenezer Pullen, a Gardener, born in Harting and Stephen Hepson, a Police Constable from Sompting.
In 1901 William, now widowed, was living at 'Roma', in St Michael's Road.
