Gilbert Joseph Martin Pegg was born in 1877 Windsor to William Pegg aged 25yrs and working as a Tailor, and Georgina aged 26yrs. 1881 Census Living at 4 Albert Villas, Archway Road, Hornsey Middlesex: William J 28yrs Tailor, Georgina 29yrs, Gilbert J 4yrs, Gertrude J 2yrs, Georgina 3mths, Ellen J 20yrs Sister and one servant 1891 Census Living at 1 South Cottage, Wimbledon Common West Side: Willia J 38yrs Merchant Tailor, Georgina 38yrs, Gilbert J M 14yrs Scholar, Gertrude J 13yrs, Georgina 10yrs, Ernest A 8yrs, William J 5yrs, Eliza Gilbert 29yrs Sister in Law On the 13th March 1902 Gilbert Pegg, aged 23yrs, left Liverpool to St John Canada on the Allan Line "Parisian" stating his occupation as "Labour" By 1906 we find him living in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Canada Records show him as an incoming passenger from New York to Liverpool on White Star Dominion Line "Cedric" with Rachel and Gilbert Junior on the 7th May 1911. GILBERT JOSEPH MARTIN PEGG volunteered for short service with the King’s Royal Rifles and served in South Africa with the 1st Special Service Company. He was discharged in June 1901. After emigrating to Manitoba, he enlisted in January 1915, serving with the Canadian Army Service Corps. He was killed by shell fire south of Bussebom, Belgium, on 28 May 1916 and is buried in the Poperinghe New Military Cemetery. (With copied research.)

"In the early summer of 1916, boastful of the beauty of the garden, we put up a notice saying : 'Come into the garden and forget about the war', and almost the first acceptance of the invitation was intimated by arrival of a 5.9 which blew sideways into the House, mortally wounding a Canadian who had come in with his brother to write a joint letter home." The Canadian in question was Sgt. G. Pegg, aged 39 years. He was killed on 28 May 1916 and is buried on Poperinghe New Military Cemetery.
