Life story

Life story

Emily was born in Chelsea, the daughter of Rev. John Rush and his wife Honour. She was baptised by her father at St Luke's Church, Chelsea on 21st October 1810. 

The family were still living in Chelsea when Emily married Charles Lennox Moore Teesdale at St Luke's Church on 16th September 1845. For a while the couple lived in London until Charles was appointed Postmaster of Exeter. 

Charles and Emily had four daughters, Emily, Annie, Mary and Charlotte. By 1881, the family had moved to Rumboldswyke near Chichester. Charles was the local magistrate. 

In 1886, they moved to a new house at the corner of Wordsworth Road and Rowlands Road. It had been built for the family by George Hewer (he is also buried at Heene). Emily died on 8th May 1890. No probate.

""We announce with regret, the death of Mrs Emily Teesdale, wife of Mr Charles Lennox Teesdale, a member of the Worthing Bench of Magistrates, the sad event occurring on Thursday last at Mr Teesdale's residence, "St Rumbold's" Wordsworth Road. The deceased lady who was the youngest daughter of the late Rev. John Rush of Chelsea, was in her eightieth year."
