Life story

Life story

Alexander Bain Chisholm, born on 4 November 1841, was the son of a doctor with the same name and of Matilda, nee Webster. Alexander senior was MRCS FRCS MD Edin LM  and was the Surgeon in St Marylebone Dispensary, then the Resident Medical Officer to the Lying-in Hospital , Edinburgh and Surgeon to the Caledonian  Asylum before moving to London and practicing  in Wimpole Street. He retired to Worthing where he died in 1889. Alexander junior became a Captain in the 25th Regiment of Foot. In the 1871 England Census, he was a visitor at 19, Bedford Terrace, Brighton, and  married Mary Jasper at St Peter's, Brighton, on 27 October 1877. By 1881 they had a son, Duncan, and a daughter, Mary, and were living at 17?, Western Place, Broadwater. Their home at the time of Alexander's death in 1891 was 'Strathglass', Manor Road, Worthing. His effects were £15,590 11s 1d.
