Life story

Life story

Daisy known as Alice was born in St Pancras, Middlesex, the daughter of William Hubert Hayles and his wife Sarah. She was baptised at St Mary Magdalene church, St Pancras on 11th May 1856. William was a cutler and died soon after his daughter's birth. Sarah moved the family to Marylebone and worked as a dressmaker. As a young woman, Daisy worked as a nurse at the Hospital for Women in Soho. On 27th October 1894, she married William Allingham, a surgeon, at Christchurch, Paddington. William was a widower and 25 years older than Daisy. The couple settled first in Hastings and then moved to Worthing, living at "Kingsdene" in Shelley Road. Daisy died on 30th May 1907. William died the following year. Probate was granted on 20th June to Arthur Fairlie Allingham solicitor and Claud Edward Woakes surgeon. Effects £5552 16s 3d.
