Life story

Life story

Dorcas was born in Bournemouth, the daughter of John and Emily. John was a publican at the time of her birth but changed his job and moved to London where he worked as a butler in Cadogan Place. At the time of the 1891 census, Emily and her children were living in Havant. Dorcas was sent to the National School at Warblington. At the age of 18, she was working as a house parlour maid for a solicitor in Putney. At the time of her death on 28 May 1907, Dorcas was working at 6 Heene Terrace, Worthing. The death certificate gives the cause of death as Ulcus Ventriculi Haematemesis (ulcer and vomiting blood). No probate.
