Life story

Life story

Elizabeth was born in Burnham, Buckinghamshire, the daughter of Lawrence and Ann. She was baptised at Burnham on 17th March 1822. On 4th May 1841, she married William Skindle, an inn keeper, at Burnham. William and Elizabeth had no children. The couple went to live at The Orkney Arms in Taplow which was run by William and his father William Snr. In 1868, after his father's death, William took over the running of The Orkney Arms helped by his wife and brother Henry. In 1873, the family moved to Worthing and took over the running of the Marine Hotel on the corner of Marine Parade and South Street. It was re-named The Marine Family Hotel. William and Elizabeth retired in 1884 and moved to Hamilton Cottage in Manor Road. Elizabeth died here on 12th July 1900. No probate.
