Life story

Ella Mitchell was born on 3rd March 1869 in Sussex, she was baptised at Bosham, Sussex, on 25th April 1869, she was the youngest of eleven children born to the Reverend Henry Mitchell, 49yrs, Vicar of Bosham, and Charlotte, 43yrs, nee Gibbs.

Ella was close to her two older sisters, Katharine, 22yrs her senior, and Marion, 17yrs, her senior. All three sisters remained single, and Ella lived with her parents, in Bosham, until their deaths shortly after the turn of the century. At some point Ella, Katharine and Marion moved to Worthing where they lived at Cissbury, Harrow Road; Marion died in 1933, and Katharine died in 1936. In 1939 Ella, now 70yrs, was a patient at Graylingwell Mental Hospital, Chichester, and she died there two years later, aged 72yrs, on 28th April 1941.
