Life story

Life story

Emily was born in Brentford, the daughter of Francis Charles and Eliza. Her father was a dyer. Francis died in 1846 and Emily's mother later remarried Samuel Lescombe, a glass dealer. On 27th August 1870, Emily married Joseph Benjamin Williams, a music publisher and composer. The couple lived in St Pancras whilst Joseph ran his business, later moving to Bromley and Watford. Emily's two eldest sons, Florian and Ralph followed their father into the music publishing business. After the First World War, Emily and Joseph retired to Guildford where they stayed until 1923. In February of that year, the family moved to Worthing, living at 17 Cowper Road. Joseph died here on 12th July 1923  and was buried at Heene. Emily stayed in Cowper Road until 1934 then moved to Hove where she died on 2nd June 1938. She was buried alongside her husband two days later. Probate was granted on 22nd July to Emily Maud Mary Hill, wife of Thomas Egerton Hill. Effects £2830 2s 1d.
