"Looking unto Jesus" Heb. 12-2 Life storyLife story James was baptised on 5 June 1881. His father, Martin, had married Georgina Mary Gates on 16 November 1878 at Heene. James only appears on the 1891 Census and was staying that night in the household of his grandparents, Martin and Barbara Riddles in Heene Road. He was one of four of the Riddles family to die of typhoid. James died on 22nd August 1893. His aunt Ellen Riddles died on 4th October after catching the disease in August. Both are buried at Heene. Ellen Mary Riddles died aged 5 in August and Martin Riddles died in September aged 35. Both are buried at West Tarring. Heene Handbell Ringers The group in the photograph of the Heene Handbell Ringers may include James and his father and even his grandfather for it was put on line by the Riddles family. The date is 1890 when James was about 9, Martin, senior, was 62 and Martin, junior, 31. James died in 1893 of Typhoid Fever and Exhaustion at the age of 12 and was buried at Heene on 23 August.
