Life story

Mary was born in 1880 to John and Mary Brittle. Mary's Father worked for the cable department of Siemens Bros. This took him oversees where he took up the study of navigation and obtained a first mate's certificate. The family lived at 9 Vanbrugh Hill, Blackheath, Greenwich

After her Father's death on 25th February 1907, Mary's Mother and Mary moved to Westbourne 45 Richmond Road Worthing Sussex. Mary's mother died on the 4th August 1928, and Mary continued to live at 45 Richmond Road. In 1939 Mary's Sister Bertha Louise is also living at 45 Richmond Road, and they have 1 servant.

Mary died on 24th September 1948 at Richmond Road. She left £13483 3s 4d (approx 479,000 today) to her Sister's , plus she left £50, certain effects and an annuity of £26 to Janet Clunes in recognition of faithful and loving service £100 each to Worthing hospital and Worthing branch of the Christian Alliance of Women and Girls.
