Life story

Life story

Mary Ann Draper was born on 27th January 1821 in Holborn, London. Her father was Thomas Draper, a Carriage Trimming manufacturer, her mother, Maria, nee Rowley, they were Protestant Dissenters, recording Mary Ann's birth on that registry.

When Mary Ann was 22yrs old in 1843, she married Thomas Gardner, 27yrs, a Hay Salesman and in March 1844 they had a son, Stanley, but, sadly, Mary Ann's husband died a few months later. In 1856, Mary Ann, 35yrs, married Joshua Edward Lidwell, 33yrs, on 8th July, at St. John's, Notting Hill. Joshua was a Chemist, with his own shop on the High Street, Notting Hill, and their daughter, Laura Ellen, was born in 1857.

Joshua died, aged 75yrs, in 1899 in Hastings, Sussex, and Mary Ann then lived with her married daughter and 7 grandchildren in Woking, Surrey. She died in Worthing, aged 83yrs, on 23rd March 1904.
