Robert had 4 brothers, William, George, Charles and Henry and two sisters Sarah and Esther. On 11 January, 1874, Robert married Mary Thorn in Battersea, Surrey. They had four children: Ellen who died as an infant, Louisa, Jessie and Ethel Victoria. In 1901 Robert was a Licensed Victualler in Bognor.
