Alexander Fussell 1814 - 1909
Artist an illustrator, Alexander Fussell, was the father of Elizabeth Anne Powell nee Fussell who is buried in Heene Cemetery.
The ornithologist, William Yarrell, commissioned Alexander to illustrate his book: 'A History of British Birds' about 1840 with about 500 drawings. Fussell worked alonsided wood engraver J Thompson.
Here is an example of a Fussell illustration of a kingfisher that was made into a wood engraving by Manchester born, John Thompson. Based in Kensington iThompson called himself a xylographist - an engraver in wood, in the 1851 census.
